The grand opening ceremony for Dønnervind at Freizeitpark Plohn took place on June 19th as this Mack Rides launched water coaster was officially opened at a media event with Europa-Park owner Roland Mack in attendance.
Prior to the official opening, Junior Managing Director Jan Völkel explained the decision-making process behind this extraordinary world-first attraction during a press conference.
“We were immediately excited by this proposal from Mack Rides,” explained Jan Völkel. “It quickly became clear to us that we had the opportunity to create something unique here—something that fits perfectly with our park and our philosophy.”

The new coaster provides a lovely blend of technology and rustic theming and boosts the Vogtland region’s appeal as a travel destination.
With a final investment volume of around 13 million euros, Dønnervind represents the largest single investment in the history of Freizeitpark Plohn. The ride combines—for the first time—the dynamic nature of a modern launch coaster with the spectacular elements of a water attraction, creating a ride experience that is unique worldwide.

In technical terms, the new attraction sets new standards: instead of a traditional lift hill, the train is accelerated multiple times by powerful magnetic drive systems. The combination of two powerful launches, rapid changes of direction, surprising moments of acceleration, and a spectacular water finale over the lake creates a…A ride experience that uniquely combines roller coaster action and water ride fun.
It’s a family-friendly coaster with some lovely theming elements added throughout and whilst it doesn’t deliver in the high-thrills department it showcases a very exciting Mack Rides technology with this water coaster launch.

For Plohn Amusement Park, the opening of Dønnervind marks another milestone in its 30-year history. At the same time, the family amusement park gains an attraction with international appeal, which is expected to attract new visitors to the park and the entire Vogtland region in the long term.
