Two brand new Scarefest attractions have been announced at Alton Towers as COMPOUND, a Phalanx-themed scare maze and Amigos in the Afterlife, a Dia De Los Muertos themed maze has been added to this year’s line-up.
After announcing a brand-new and improved Scarefest many fans were shocked to find the same line-up as last year’s event and quickly took to social media to question the choices.
Alton Towers have removed last year’s experiences Darkest Depths and The Invitation and replaced them with a child-friendly scare maze and a Phalanx maze.
The Invitation received horrendous reviews but these two new additions at least bring something new for guests to enjoy after the rest of the announcements have been very copy and paste.

The Attic, Altonville Mine Tours and Daz Games all return with the very popular Burial Grounds scare maze coming back which was a great addition to last year’s event.
Fans were expecting a much-improved lineup this year with the addition of more scare zones but both COMPOUND and Amigos in the Afterlife are the mazes that have been delivered for this year and fans are divided.
Amigos in the Afterlife is a family scare attraction as guests will step foot into a vibrant world where the gap between this life and the next is at its thinnest. Guided by friendly spirits, guests must find their way back to the world of the living. Journeying through this magical realm of spooktacular effects, encountering mischievous characters along the way who will challenge guests with tasks to earn their passage back to the living realm.
With such a big focus on the announcement of The Dungeons closing to make way for this experience and closing many months ago I, like many, expected the boat ride to be incorporated into this day of the dead experience but sadly it’s just not meant to be. The Alton Towers Dungeon will NOT be returning after this event in its current form.

One experience that is standing out for me is a Phalanx-themed maze, an adult-themed scare maze where guests find themselves as a subject of the Phalanx – a shady organisation originally tasked with keeping the Nemesis beast under control. COMPOUND is an intense and disorientating scare maze, set within an intimidating Phalanx facility featuring dark and claustrophobic environments amongst the hallways and chambers of their labs. Guarded by their relentless operatives, guests are plunged into a sinister sci-fi experiment where their DNA is the next weapon.
The Resort’s new family-friendly scare attraction, Trick O’ Treat Town with HARIBO will also return for 2024, welcoming guests to knock on the doors from Spooky Avenue all the way up to the Witchy Woods for the ultimate trick-or-treating experience.
Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director for Alton Towers Resort, said:
“Get ready for creepy scares, shocks and thrills as Scarefest returns and is more spooktacular than ever.
“From taking on our new and returning scare attractions, to creating unforgettable memories at our wealth of family attractions, Scarefest at Alton Towers Resort is going to be the ultimate celebration of Halloween.”
There are a range of Combi Tickets and VIP packages available for guest to make the most out of their visits, including a truly exclusive ticket for Merlin Annual Passholders offering them unlimited frights across all big thrill mazes throughout the entire Scarefest run.
