Alton Towers Project Horizon Roller Coaster Application Submitted

The Alton Towers Project Horizon roller coaster has had its full planning application submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council with a rough opening date of 2025.

The proposed development happening in the Coaster Corner area of the park next to The World of David Walliams will consist of the construction of a new building to house an indoor roller coaster.

Additional ground works, infrastructure and landscaping are also listed in the application.

The building will be approximately 71m in length, 46m in width and 19.4m in height. The building will be designed to reduce the visual impact for local residents and will house the coaster indoors to reduce noise.

A smaller building has also been proposed extended from the main building sized at 40m x 10m. A themed feature will be installed on the same elevation along with an angled arch with additional theming.

A timer and will queue line fencing outline has been proposed along with three separate queue lines consisting of disabled access, fastrack and the standard queue.

A pre-show section is roughly outlined if albeit not confirmed with guests being batched from 3 doors into the main attraction building.

The total construction cost is around the £12.5 million mark which indicates that this isn’t the secret weapon Alton Towers project that everyone assumed it would be.

A construction period of 78 weeks is stated with work starting (if permission is granted) as early as Spring 2023 with an opening of 2025 proposed.

Many speculated that the park was soon to get a flying theatre but listed within the sole reference of the application it states the introduction of a new rollercoaster.

It’s safe to say I breathed a sigh of relief as I absolutely can’t stand flying theatres. They’re just poor attractions no matter which park you do them at!

What do you make of Alton Towers Project Horizon? Are you looking forward to it?
