After a recent restructuring in Merlin Entertainments with all of their theme parks and attractions it has today been announced that Bianca Sammut will be leaving her position at Alton Towers Resort.
Bianca arrived at Alton Towers Resort in February 2023 in the role of Divisional Director. With vast experience at attractions such as Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi and Village Roadshow in Austria she brought a vibrant passion to the role and instantly got off on the front foot with becoming the face of Alton Towers and being more front facing with fans of the park and the general public.
This hands-on approach was certainly something not seen before at Alton Towers as Bianca oversaw some very exciting improvements and additions to the park with a strong focus on park lighting and ambience but the main project we have to thank her for is championing the cause for Nemesis to stay at Alton Towers and allowing Nemesis Reborn to be constructed.
Bianca spearheaded the transformation of the iconic invert which included a new track, trains (including recycled parts from the original) in addition to a brand new station building which looks very impressive indeed.
In addition to Nemesis, Skyride and Hex also underwent multimillion pound refurbishments and conservation efforts were focused on within the Alton Towers gardens under her leadership and the introduction of Toxicator, a Huss Top-Spin flat ride returned to the park after Ripsaw made its departure from Forbidden Valley back in 2015.
Tech improvements, more focus on themed areas (a big plus in my eyes), EV charging, solar panels and new sensory spaces were also introduced to the park during her leadership.
Scarefest saw the return of scare zones to the park after many years and an IP (sort-of) attraction in the shape of Daz Games: Panic.
Pirate Takeover was also a wonderful event that was introduced to the parks line-up along with VIP tours and events where fans could get up close and personal with iconic roller coasters and track-walks returned where guests could ascend to the top of Oblivion or Wicker Man in these very intimate and fan-focused events.
Sticking to her Australian roots TV’s beloved Bluey was brought to Alton Towers and CBeebies celebrated its 10th anniversary with a giant party featuring all of the CBeebies presenters on stage doing their thing.
Whilst all of the above has been some of the highlights it hasn’t all been smooth sailing with Alton Towers sadly becoming a victim of wider cuts including the entertainment team and other more prominent projects being cut or cancelled altogether behind the scenes.
In that time the Alton Towers Dungeons, firm fan-favourite Blade was closed permanently without warning and Favios Fabulous Fandango also left the park, but no one really minded that last one as funfair rides in Alton Towers was always a puzzling decision to begin with.
We want to wish Bianca all the best in the future, if you missed our interview with her you can check that out below:
