Blackpool Sealife Set for New Interactive Attraction

Merlin Entertainments has submitted two planning applications to Blackpool Council to rejuvenate the Blackpool Sealife building with a brand new attraction.

Having recently opened Peter Rabbit: Explore and Play this brand new application covers a large space on the ground floor of the Promenade building which is currently unused.

Details are being kept tight-lipped but the application refers to a ‘family attraction’ along with a gift shop and hot food takeaway.

The exterior which is looking a little worst for wear lately has also been included in the plans with a facelift planned.

Merlin says the development would bring in new jobs and improve visitor experience.

A report joined to the application for the Blackpool Sealife upgrade states:

Merlin is proposing to enhance Blackpool’s retail offering by reviving a dilapidated building in a prime location, which has previously been used for retail and leisure purposes.

In conjunction with the visitor tourist attraction, the site offers a significant opportunity to help the local resort in terms of job creation and direct and indirect visitor spending.

Particularly after COVID-19, which has had a huge impact on the leisure and retail industries due to extensive periods of closure and reduced occupancy, the site offers an opportunity to help revive the area and give tourists a reason to re-visit Blackpool and strengthen the retail offer.
