It was announced in October that a David Walliams ride inspired from his children’s books would be coming to Alton Towers in 2020. Alton Towers stated that 100 specialists were working on the ride ready for its grand unveiling next year.
What do we know so far?
Well very little really. The House of Monsters building near Cloud Cuckoo Land has been cordoned off which suggests the ride in question or SOMETHING will be associated to that area.
The Wobble World building that has also been gutted in preparation for the new ride. There’s ALOT of space here to work with which is promising.
The wording of the press release has me curious. They said the specialists are working ‘flat-out’ to make it ready for it’s grand unveiling. Could this be a hint at an indoor flat-ride?
With 100 specialists on board it wouldn’t make sense if the ride was a simple Children’s ride. Why so many people? Hopefully it’s nothing VR related. Whilst I liked Galactica with the VR addition sadly many others didn’t.
My Thoughts
I personally think the David Walliams ride at Alton Towers will be an indoor dark ride. If they’re not fully committing to it then maybe even a walkthrough similar to Room on The Broom at Chessington World of Adventures. I’m not sure it will be a walkthrough thou as the word ‘ride’ has been heavily stated.
Either way I think a journey through the world of David Walliams’s infamous characters with a potential world’s-first thrown in there for a good unique selling point would be a good direction.
The large tech team involved has me wondering if it’ll be some sort of ride mixed with a stage show. A spectacle of pyro effects and more to bring the magic of the books to life.
