Did You Know That Only 11% of Efteling Belongs to its Rides?

Efteling

Did you know that only 11% of Efteling’s 72 hectares belong to its rides?

It’s completely true! The other 89% is filled with sweeping lakes, open spaces, forests and places to sit and relax with the family.

Efteling has stated that it will never go above its set 11%, meaning it is the antithesis to other larger and more hectic theme parks – and there’s no worry of the park being overcrowded in the future.

The park first opened in 1952 as the Fairytale Forest, the park is now the largest nature theme park in the Netherlands and the third-largest theme park in Europe.

Efteling is the ideal destination for a fun-filled multigenerational short break, where attractions, roller coasters, theatre and park shows mean there are activities to suit all ages.

In 2024, the park is due to welcome its new thriller attraction, Danse Macabre, replacing the beloved Spookslot with an interactive ride that will use the first technology of its kind in the world. In addition, the first in-park hotel, Efteling Grand Hotel, will open its doors, adding an entirely new premium accommodation offering to the park.

You can see some of the construction of this attraction and the hotel in our recent visit to the park. Check out our Efteling VLOG below:

Efteling has always been strongly committed to nature and the environment, supporting nature conservation, protection of the environment and sustainability in various ways.

The park has recently announced plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 and aims to be climate positive by 2032, its 80th anniversary. Just an hour from Amsterdam, it is also easily reachable from the UK by train.

Guests can choose from Efteling’s multitude of nearby accommodation options, from self-catering treehouses at Loonsche Land Holiday Village to the fairytale-themed Efteling Hotel.

Accommodation begins at 339 EUR (£300) based on a family of four in a two-bedroom self-catered accommodation, inclusive of 2x days of park tickets.
