It’s not very often we will ever say this. But we were right! It has officially been confirmed that the new attraction coming to Alton Towers will indeed be a dark ride.
Gangsta Granny The Ride
Based in the former House of Monsters / Wobble World buildings will be the new home to this brand new dark ride. A much needed dark ride for Alton Towers after Duel sold out and added lasers!
There will be extensive theming around this area of the park and the ride is due to open on the first day of the season this March.
The character was created by David Walliams and he has been working closely alongside designers including John Burton to create the brand new attraction.
What to Expect?
Gangsta Granny tells the story of Ben. Bored beyond belief because he has to stay at his boring grandma’s house. But Ben doesn’t know two things about this Grandma. She’s an international jewel thief and she’s been plotting to steal the Crown Jewels and she needs Ben’s help.

The ride looks to be based on The Crown Jewels Tour itself. Ben and his Granny are attempting the theft of the jewels and you’re along on the ride with them. Both the House of Monsters and Wobble World buildings combined are absolutely huge. This can only mean good news for a lengthy ride with lots and lots of theming!
Passengers will be taken through a 4D journey of twists, spins and 360 degree turns as you feel, hear, see and even smell segments of the story. It’s great to see our friends over at AromaPrime are back on board with a permanent attraction.

Construction work began last year and Cloud Cuckoo Land will see more attractions including:
- Raj’s shop where visitors will be able to pick up a bargain
- A Royal Carousel where youngsters can race horses
- The re-branded frog-hopper ride which will become Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp
- Encounters with characters
- Gangsta Granny themed hotel rooms in the Alton Towers Hotel
Whilst this could potentially be a trackless ride the image suggests a track under the cart. Pure speculation of course as the track could have been added for effect only.
It would be even better if there was some sort of tunnel or similar through the towers before you end up on the search for the crown jewels. How cool would that be?
