Up and down the country there are many roller coasters that strike the fear of god into the hearts of those who dare to ride them, the sheer drops that have you wondering just how the coasters manage to stay on their tracks. We go over the UK’s top 5 steepest roller coasters in today’s article.
5. Oblivion – 87.5°

This Bollinger & Mabillard coaster was in fact a prototype and was marketed as the world’s first vertical drop coaster.
Costing a cool £12 million Secret Weapon 4 as it was known before it opened in March 1998 doesn’t actually feature a vertical drop. The drop itself is actually 87.5° (according to RCDB) and not the 90° angle that would constitute it as a ‘vertical drop’ coaster.
The reason for this was that at the time of manufacturing the trains lacked sprung wheel assemblies which didn’t come until some time later on much later models.
Oblivion is also one of the fastest roller coasters in the country as the drop drives riders underground at 68mph.
4. Stealth – 90°

This Intamin launch coaster opened in 2006 and it isn’t just the fastest coaster in the United Kingdom but it’s also the second tallest and the fourth steepest.
Building upon what Oblivion could not Stealth features a 90° drop but with a ride duration of around 29 seconds you really haven’t got long to appreciate it!
3. Speed: No Limits / Rage – 97°

We have a tie in at third place with both Speed: No Limits at Oakwood Theme Park and Rage at Adventure Island both have the exact same drop angle of 97°.
If there’s one thing you’ll learn from looking at not only the UK’s steepest roller coasters but the world’s steepest roller coasters is that it won’t be short of rides made by Gerstlauer.
The Gerstlauer Eurofighter model is constantly pushing boundaries with its insane drop angles and they’re constantly pushing the limits of defying what you think is possible.
2. Saw The Ride – 100°

Surprise, surprise it’s another Eurofighter on our list and this one is Saw The Ride at Thorpe Park with an impressive drop angle of 100°.
Known by enthusiasts as rough I beg to differ as I find the ride rather smooth every single time I go on and in every single seat I sit in bar the last drop.
That’s the only time during the entire ride where I’m like “okay, I know what people mean now” but it’s just one drop at the end.
Grow a pair!
1. Mumbo Jumbo – 112°

At the top of our UK’s Top 5 Steepest Roller Coasters list is Mumbo Jumbo at Flamingo Land.
At a breathtaking drop of 112° Mumbo Jumbo once held the world record for the world’s steepest coaster back in 2009.
This record lasted until 2011.
A Guinness World Record plaque of this achievement is displayed outside of the ride.
With an insanely quick lift hill and that intimidating first drop Mumbo Jumbo is well worth your time!
