Horror at Hinchingbrooke House Review: They STEPPED UP!

Hinchingbrooke House

We were gifted FREE tickets in exchange for this honest review here on Lift Hills and Thrills.

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House was easily the most hands-on and longest scare maze we did in 2024 as you weave through Hinchingbrooke school and numerous marquee tents outside along with a whole variety of themed areas full of iconic sets, characters and terror.

We were so excited to head on down to Huntingdon this year to check out this years event but we had no idea that we’d be stepping into an even better event than the year prior, it was PHENOMENAL!

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House is a unique and visceral haunted attraction that stands out among the UK’s seasonal horror experiences as this old mansion brings horrors alive every Halloween season but what sets the attraction apart is just how quickly they turn this environment into a horror maze every year.

Horror at Hinchinbrooke House Teletubbies

Using lots of vinyl sheets and then dressing them with props (LOTS of props) they create these visually beautiful sets that are lit so wonderfully that they look ten times better than some permanent horror attractions in the UK.

Pop-up mazes usually have a cheap vibe to them but that’s never the case at Hinchingbrooke, they really go all out to immerse you in the sets and with some incredible actors on top who aren’t afraid to pin you down, push you onto a bed or get up close, hands-on and personal it really does level up the event to something unlike anything anyone else sets up during the Halloween scare season.

This year saw The Ring, The Grudge, Squid Games, Dahmer, Teletubbies and even Taylor Swift spoofed into terrifying horror walkthrough rooms and experiences.

Horror at Hinchinbrooke House

One minute you’re in a clown rave as a zombie clown is spinning around on a stripper pole and the next you’re lying on a bed being stroked by the girl from The Exorcist. It’s a manic walkthrough that is absolutely relentless and the only time you can catch your breath is the walk from tent to tent when you’re outside. Catch your breath, reduce your blood pressure and then hop back on inside for another experience.

Theming is so damn good that you know exactly what room you’re in, from the iconic Wednesday Addams dancing infront of you to being trapped in a maze of Grindhouse Cinema inspired horror films from Cannibals to The Mummy, it’s just so bloody impressive.

This team of 15 who construct these mazes, hats off to every single one of you, if only your quality and expertise was echoed throughout more horror attractions in the UK.

I also want to give a massive shout out to all of the actors, a cast of 100+ people who terrorise you for a job. Their energy, commitment, and timing bring each vignette to life. They interact with visitors in ways that feel spontaneous yet controlled, maintaining safety while keeping the illusion of danger intact. The variety of performances—from silent, stalking figures that seem to materialize from the darkness to full-blown, screaming confrontations—creates a rhythm that keeps participants constantly off-balance.

The only negative I had of our experience was the fact we did two run-throughs, the first was a lovely press invited ‘you can film’ walkthrough where we were batched slower than other groups and had more time in the mazes to ourselves. The second run-through we didn’t film and were stuck in a poorly batched conga line where we were physically waiting inside the maze in a giant line for 10-15 mins.

Now, I feel as though this was just bad timing or bad batching on the events part as we would have hit a queue on our first run-through if it was an ongoing issue, we just had a bad run the second time around but if that was our first run-through and we were paying guests, we wouldn’t have been happy with that experience what so ever.

Terrifier Entrance Hinchinbrooke House

All in all, Horror at Hinchingbrooke House is an outstanding example of immersive horror done right. They really are a go-to event every Halloween season and the team are so dedicated and passionate about delivering the best possible experience and they smash it every single time.

I get excited about what things they will spoof year after year and well, this year for me one of the highlights was The Terrifier, that room was so beautifully done and both actors were on their A-game, this room was so early on in our walkthrough experience but it was a room that imprinted in my memory, it was TERRIFIC!

It always puzzles me what happens to most of these set pieces and set dressing, I didn’t recognise any particular prop or set dressing piece from last year, it always seems to be new and fresh and it changes every single year so drastically. It’s rather special!

So whether you’re a fan of Friday the 13th and want to take a trip to Camp Crystal Lake or you want to immersive yourself in the Netflix tent where some classic Netflix titles come to life before your very eyes, there’s only one event to visit this Halloween season!
