After a whole week of mysterious animal-themed artwork has been spotted around London artist Banksy posted his 9th and possibly final piece of art with London Zoo being the chosen location this time.
The artwork depicts a gorilla, seal and birds with the gorilla uncovering what looks to be a sheet and setting the animals free in what many interpret as a strong anti-zoo message.
Whilst some say it’s an anti-zoo message others say it’s a tribute to London Zoo (I’m not so sure about that) as the animals across London that have been painted so far have essentially been ‘freed’ if you tie all the loose ends together.
Murals of elephants, monkeys, a wolf, goat, pelican, rhino and piranha have all been spotted in various locations across the capital with one piece of artwork (a wolf painted on a satellite dish) being stolen over the last couple of days.
Typical.
London Zoo’s media manager Rebecca Blanchard told Sky News:
“This is his [Banksy’s] incredible new mural.
“It’s at our entrance and will be available for people to see and admire. It’s very cool!”
Staff at London Zoo were in for a surprise this morning as they first spotted the artwork at around 6:30am to feed the animals.
The zoo looks to preserve the artwork as it is attracting tourists who are flocking to see the art and at the same time visit the zoo, it’s been a win-win for the business.
