A day doesn’t seem to go by without another Blackpool investment updated and this time the Blackpool Central Pier wheel is set to be replaced with an even bigger and better wheel!
As part of a £4M upgrade owners of The Blackpool Pier Company have said this new wheel will be bigger, taller and brighter than the current one it is replacing.
Carriages will be wheelchair friendly and will be open to visitors all year round and made from sustainable and state-of-the-art technologies to reduce energy consumption.
If the planning permission is approved the wheel will take 12 months to build and is aiming for a summer 2023 opening.
The wheel will also feature VIP carriages for that special moment and they will be more enclosed to protect riders from the weather ailments.
The Blackpool Pier Company are hoping the wheel will increase footfall and revenue to create a long term security for the piers.
In a statement, a spokesperson said:
“The Blackpool Pier Company are proud to announce their biggest investment yet; a new Big Wheel!
“It goes without saying that the new Big Wheel will continue to provide unrivalled views of the Irish sea and unique coastline including the newly formed promenade headlands that millions have had and will continue to have the pleasure of enjoying year after year.”
This new investment in addition to the recently approved Blackpool Central development AND the brand new and unique family Merlin attraction set to open in Blackpool in 2022 is nothing but good news for the future of Blackpool tourism.
