Could this be the world’s best job? Become a ride tester at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with this brand-new position available at the park.
In a clever marketing stunt that is getting some great attention in the media and on the TV, Blackpool Pleasure Beach are looking for a rollercoaster test rider to join the team and report on the numerous rides not only at Blackpool Pleasure Beach but at coasters around Europe (most likely BPB partners such as Efteling and PortAventura).
The lucky applicant will report on the ride’s fun factor (good look on Big Dipper / Grand National) and provide feedback for improvement.
I personally think having a tester for established rides definitely points towards a marketing stunt vs an actual job that could help the park.
Imagine coming off Revolution and suggesting what could be done differently to make it more fun. A one loop wonder and back again. What could we change? The tumbleweed blowing in the breeze before you as you have absolutely no clue how to make this one-trick pony more fun.
The job advert states the person they are looking for will be required to:
- Test numerous rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and report on a number of key fun factors such as speed, thrills, and excitement levels.
- Advise where they think improvements could be made to increase the fun factor on individual rides.
- Work with the Operations Department if necessary to come up with fun and thrilling ideas for future projects.
- Travel to other European parks to provide feedback and reports to Blackpool Pleasure Beach on other rides.
Candidate requirements
- Be at least 1.32M tall
- Have a good head for heights
- Have a strong stomach
- Like going upside down
- Previous experience of riding rollercoasters and thrill rides is preferred.
Considering I for one have been on Nemesis 64 times in a day with a medical condition I believe I’d be perfect for the role. Getting paid to moan about Blackpool Pleasure Beach rides is the perfect job role for me!
I love the idea that you’ll be involved in future projects with rumours swirling of a brand new rollercoaster in the works for the park around 2026 and beyond and travelling to European parks would be such a wonderful experience but also a bittersweet one as the coasters and park atmosphere overseas at all BPB partner parks wipes the floor with anything here in the UK.
Bringing feedback back to the UK from these overseas parks could be very beneficial to how not only BPB but other UK parks can adapt and improve to compete with some of the overseas big boys!
