The London Resort planning application has been submitted to the UK government as this ongoing project has taken a huge step forward towards becoming a reality.
One of Europe’s most ambitious theme park developments has taken a step forward this week as a 25,000 page planning application has been submitted to the UK government outlining plans for the Kent based theme park.
The London Resort has outlined plans to become one of the largest, single site employers in the UK and their economy boosting figures will be hard for our government to turn down.
It is expected that The London Resort could bring in over £50bn of gross economic activity over an initial 25-year period.
Over 6000 construction jobs would be created with 8700 employees at the theme park employed by the expecting Phase 1 opening date of 2024.
This employees number would rise to over 17,000 by 2038 when Phase 2 (expected to open 2029) will be added into the mix!
Chief Executive PY Gerbeau said:
“I arrived at this project eighteen months ago and it has been non-stop ever since. We have revived, reviewed, and reprogrammed the entire venture. This will be so much more than just a theme park.”
Both phases will consist of the two parks themselves, a waterpark, conference, convention centre, hotel and e-sports facility.
Two ferry terminals will also be built on each side of the River Thames that will not only transport guests to the park but will be a shipping terminal providing goods to the parks.
Mr Gerbeau continued:
“We have built excellent relationships with many stakeholders and are working closely with the elected local Council leaders. This has been an incredibly challenging journey and we look forward to working with the UK Government over the next twelve months.”
This is the first European development of its kind to be built form scratch since Disneyland Paris in 1992.
If the government sign off on the planning application then work will begin as soon as 2022 with a plan to open in 2024.
The Government has a period of 28 days in which they write to local authorities and undertake their own consultations and evaluations of an application before they make their final decision.
We hope to bring you more positive news on this wonderfully ambitious concept as soon as we receive it!
