The Wave Rollercoaster Opening at Drayton Manor in 2024

The Wave Rollercoaster at Drayton Manor

Drayton Manor has today revealed The Wave rollercoaster as the official name replacement for the former stand-up rollercoaster Shockwave.

Instead of the stand-up coaster experience that Shockwave brought to the park, The Wave will feature a whole new transformation with a re-imagining that includes sit-down trains and a revised height restriction.

Younger kids can now enjoy this family-thrill rollercoaster and it’s set to open this Spring.

The exciting new attraction has maintained many of Shockwave’s original features, meaning riders can still race up to high speeds of 53 mph, experiencing up to level 4 G-Force at 12 feet high.

What’s more, the reimagined Wave ride includes four inversions, a unique zero-gravity roll and a double corkscrew structure – all bound to get pulses racing.

With a brand new train featuring lap restraints designed to secure you in, the ride is now accessible to more ‘young thrillseekers’ than ever before thanks to its reduced 1.2M height restriction.

Guided by the legendary reps of Saltwater Soul Travel Co, visitors can enjoy the adrenaline-pumping world of surfing through a new experience, combining the most thrilling waves from around the world.

Victoria Lynn, Managing Director at Drayton Manor Resort says:

“Shockwave has always been such a big part of Drayton Manor since opening nearly two decades ago and we’re so excited to see The Wave preserve all the iconic thrills and fun for more families and future generations to come.

By adapting the hair-raising characteristics of our iconic Shockwave, we’re excited to welcome young fans, from as early as 5 to 6 years old, depending on height, to experience the UK’s most thrilling family ride.”

Drayton Manor certainly has an exciting future as the jewel in the Looping Group crown has more in store in 2024 than ever before.

It’s exciting to see what the future will hold for the park and the brand-new area will further add to the attention to detail and theming that Drayton Manor prides itself on.

I hope that The Wave will have a themed station as the Shockwave station was the one station/queue line in the entire park that had zero theming when just across from the attraction is Stormforce 10 which has one of the best-themed queue lines in the country along with Accelerator which has a Disney standard level of theming within its queue line.

With a whole new Western-themed land in the works set to open later in the year along with the park’s brand new Intamin Lift and Launch coaster this year will be an exciting one for Drayton as they look to smash visitor numbers in the 2024 season.

In addition to this, there will be new entertainment, the return of Terence to Thomas Land and much more!
