In one of the most disastrous opening days at Alton Towers Resort in recent memory, the brand new Toxicator Ride closed on its first day of public operation after a sewage leak spilt gallons of excrement within Forbidden Valley forcing the area to be closed for a large period of the day.
After thousands of comments streamed online about rides being closed all day, long queues, evacuations and more which already didn’t kick off the new 2025 season very well, insult was added to injury when a mains pipe burst in the new tunnel underneath the Toxicator Ride spewing raw sewage absolutely everywhere.
In what was a rather ironic and in no way a marketing stunt the Toxicator ride set up its own marketing campaign with raw toxic waste leaking onto the public pathways.
The ride was shut for around an hour as the mess was cleared up and credit to the park, the ride did reopen by what a horrendous opening day for the Staffordshire theme park as things seem to be going from bad to worse for Merlin Entertainments premier theme park.
Standing at 78ft tall Toxicator can carry 500 riders an hour and is the only Huss Rides Top Spin ride in the world that is elevated above ground level and the only top-spin in the world where guests can walk underneath it.
Fans were quick to flock to social media to voice their anger at an opening day that Alton Towers will. very quickly want to forget.
Quite a shitty situation all around for the park and an absolute PR nightmare as a new ride themed around toxic waste did it’s own little party trick with the help of the parks sewage/waste disposal.
The 2025 season at Alton Towers Resort can only go up from here, surely?
A spokesperson for Alton Towers said: “Due to an unexpected burst pipe near the ride, Toxicator briefly paused operation while our teams swiftly dealt with the issue. The ride and surrounding area are now fully reopened and welcoming guests.”
