Today Universal Destinations & Experiences planning permission documents were made public as part of the Special Development Order and whilst most of it contained within it is information we already knew there are a few little things we have found out about this exciting new development.
This transformative development for Bedford and the UK will feature a theme park along with expansion zones, several immersive lands, on-site accommodation (500 room hotel) and dining, retail and entertainment offerings within a CityWalk style venue.
Within the statement it says that this new park will be a revamped vision of a Universal Studios park with a mix of blockbuster attractions and rollercoasters that look to push the height boundary with the max height of the structure on site upon construction being listed up to 115 metres tall, no doubt alluding to the Back to the Future themed roller coaster which will feature a giant spike which would easily make it the tallest coaster in the United Kingdom beating Hyperia over at Thorpe Park.
Park operating hours were also listed at 7am-11pm with an extension until 2am for seasonal events such as Halloween Horror Nights, further confirmation that a high-quality horror event is already in the pipeline for this exciting new park.
A public consultation on the planning request is now open until August 31st and with creative jobs already being posted by Universal recruitment it’s full speed ahead on this exciting new theme park.
But what I did notice is that construction on the actual park itself won’t start until 2027?
That seems like an awfully long time away unless I’m just misreading it, I’d have thought construction would begin at the earliest of Q4 this year or early 2026, but maybe I’m wrong?
If approved, the theme park landscape in the UK will change forever as Bedford will become the centre of the UK for all things theme park as the local economy and the national. economy will absolutely soar.
It’s a very exciting time to be a theme park fan
