Alton Towers Facial Recognition Digipass Introduced For 2021

Alton Towers Facial Recognition Digipass

An Alton Towers facial recognition digipass will be introduced for the 2021 season and it feel as though we’ve skipped forward in time with this unique and interesting ride addition.

Simply pay £15 and jump on the rides.

Your ride photos will be delivered instantly to your smartphone which means that queuing at photo counters are a thing of the past.

You’ll have a realtime gallery on your smartphone where you can share your photos instantly.

You can also add the rest of your group to a single device so all your memories are in one place.

How crazy is that?!

This technology will be in place for the 2021 season and this no doubt means you will have to have your picture taken or face scanned for the technology to recognise you on the ride and away you go.

With the rumours going around of a virtual queuing system for the 2021 season and now this, the upcoming season could be very cool indeed.

But some people will absolutely have concerns about this including the scanning of your face in the first place not to mention where that information is stored.

We had a quick dive into the FAQ’s on the Picsolve site and found the following information.

*A photo is taken of you when you redeem your photo pass. This photo will be turned into a user profile and will find you during your ride to add your personal photos to the database on your phone

*Information will be stored on your facial features including lines that match features on your face as well as the colour of your top or hair. The software also checks for your approximate age

*Data will be handled as carefully as if it was DNA and is classified under the General Data Protection Regulations

*This data will not be used to profile you. Faces are turned into a string of numbers which links to other corresponding photographs on rides you’ve been on during your day

*Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Meaning it is secure from the moment the photo is taken to the moment they delete it

*The software will be able to recognise you if you’re wearing a mask, sunglasses or even costume makeup. They can tell your features from multiple angles.

*All photos will be taken on ride regardless of if you’re signed up for a digipass or not as is standard at UK theme parks and attractions. Individual consent is not required.

*You must be over 18 to use this service

*A system will be in place where a parent or guardian will need to provide consent on behalf of their child

*Unpurchased photos and biometric data will be stored for 7 days

*Purchased photos and biometric data will be stored for 90 days

*Selfies to remove photo from system and data will be stored for 3 days

*Personal data submitted to guest services will be stored for 2 years

This all sounds very Minority Report to me and i’m pretty sure this is how the beginning of the movie Face Off begins.

I’m going to arrive at Alton Towers one day and then my phone pings and a clone of me will be captured on Rita and in that very moment I’ll be disappointed in my clone for having such poor taste in rides.
