After 17 years it looks as though a new roller coaster at Chessington World of Adventures is looking to be a strong possibility.
A magazine was distributed today to residents of the local area surrounding Chessington World of Adventures which highlighted plans for a brand new rollercoaster and children’s rides.
Dragons Fury was the last rollercoaster built at the park back in 2004 and Chessington are eager to continue plans that were sadly delayed by the pandemic.
They believe the investment is critical to the resort’s recovery after the pandemic and want to ensure it continues to attract guests for years to come.
The original plans were drafted in 2016 which outlined a new rollercoaster and other children’s rides to be located on the ‘picnic field’ at the southern part of the resort.
At this moment in the time this particular area is not within the major development boundary although we expect this to change with Chessington announcing public consultations as early as May 18th.
Full updates regarding the consultation will also be published May 4th and already rumours are circulating about what the new coaster could be.

A water coaster was a strong possibility but with the new rainforest expansion and Tiger Rock I personally can’t see why they’d have another larger scale water ride experience.
One that did strike me as interesting was an Intamin quad bike or bike coaster, very similar to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure over at Universal Orlando.
We will post more details in due course when more is revealed on May 4th (Star Wars day) ahead of the initial May 18th public consultation.
After the opening of Croc Drop this year and now with this latest development it seems as though Merlin are really investing heavily in the London based park.
Update – 18/05/2021

Chessington World of Adventures Resort have today commenced a two week public consultation on a brand new ‘Amazon Land’ which will consist of a new rollercoaster and two children’s rides.
Planned to be built in the southern area of the resort this new area coaster will “propel guests on a car through banks and turns before coming to a dead end on the track adjacent to a themed structure, the car will then be propelled along the same route back to the station.”

It sounds very Vekoma Boomerang to me from that description but some form of B&M winged coaster has also been in the murmurings as eagle eyed coaster fans spotted a similar track design and the inclusion of air gates on both sides of the open-air station.
The two children’s rides are yet to be confirmed but there has been a selection of rides posted and two will be chosen.
The concept art shows the choice has been narrowed down to a Jump n Smile, Technical Park Bateaux Volants, Zierer Jet Skis, and a Technical Park Super Miami.
What do you think about a new roller coaster at Chessington World of Adventures?
It’s certainly been a long time coming!
Update 09/08/2021

More details have emerged regarding the ongoing project with the resorts new land being Amazon themed offering more details including a rollercoaster and speculation that the area will be themed after Jumanji.
This speculation arose because the landscaping around the gardens section (centre of image) is shaped exactly like the track on the Jumanji board game.
The new area is to be located opposite Dragon’s Fury in the southern area of the resort and the main attraction coaster will sit along with two children’s rides.
Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard (rumoured due to the style of the track shown on plans) the coaster will be 380m in length and will include an inversion and reach speeds of around 45mph.
The track layout looks like there is a backwards launch out of the station before running through the main course and travelling around a large spike element looping around a rock animal feature.
If the ride is to be Jumanji themed it will most likely be themed around the new Jumanji movies meaning the rock animal feature structure may be the jaguar shrine from the new films.
The one inversion shows will be a shallow zero-g roll over the entrance/exit. Riders would go through this inversion forwards and backwards.
