Merlin Entertainments Oppose London Resort Plans

Merlin Entertainments has called for the planning application for The London Resort to be withdrawn.

In a letter to the Examination Authority Merlin stated that the Resort planners had not demonstrated any ‘tangible progress’.

After months of delays the Resort planners were asked to provide regular updates and Merlin Entertainment are opposing the application under the following notes:

“The Applicant appears only to have undertaken a very tokenistic amount of engagement with statutory consultees and Affected Persons, and in many cases, none at all,” Merlin wrote in the letter published on 26 January.

“We are now of the view that the ExA should formally request a withdrawal of the application (which
we had previously suggested as a possible measure).”

The UK government has the final decision in regards to the application but this is just another sign that Merlin Entertainments are getting quite nervous about the prospect of The London Resort.

In what is set to be the UK’s biggest theme park The London Resort will cater to all demographics from kids to thrill-seeking adults and with parks such as Chessington, Thorpe Park and LEGOLAND all belonging to Merlin Entertainments and London based the proposed theme park proves to be a big threat.

Investment in all three London based parks has already begun in advance of the park being built and it does feel as though The London Resort would have the upper hand versus all three parks should the application be granted.

It’ll be interesting to see how things develop between Merlin Entertainments and London Resort but we’re not too far away from finding out if the green light for the project will go ahead as the first stage of the construction is set to take place later this year if the government give the ok to continue.

In more recent news the bosses at the proposed multi-billion pound resort have signed another major partner.

That partner is business services giant PwC.

Details are few and far between but it could involve systems involving crowd density to prevent build up and apps to help customer experiences on park.

PY Gerbeau, CEO of London Resort said:

“To be the first theme park across Europe to be built from scratch in nearly 30 years, we need to work with the best and they don’t come much bigger or better than PwC. We are delighted to welcome them as a partner invested in the project.

“Our determination to deliver on sustainability, commitment to deliver on carbon zero aspirations and improving the fabric of society by operating as good corporate citizens are values we share with PwC.”
