This week it emerged that Alton Towers are to hold a public consultation regarding a brand new indoor attraction located on the former site of the Alton Mouse in Coaster Corner. Is this SW9 or simply the rumoured David Walliams World expansion getting underway?
Limited information is known at this stage as the consultation will be held on Monday 19th September in the Alton Towers Conference Centre.
Coaster Corner is currently located behind David Walliams World as used to be home to the 4-Man Bob, Alton Towers and Alton Beast coasters for a number of years until residents complained of noise impacts.
This new indoor attraction will combat the noise issues and the land is currently being used as a backstage area for storage and waste/recycling facilities.
Towers Times have drafted up an image of the space tipped for this new development as well as adding in The Smiler rollercoaster into that space to show the rough size that Alton Towers have to work with here. You can see that photo on their official FB page HERE.

The new area itself could very well be a new land as suspected by many if SW9 was to be located here but there is also the Bunbury Hillfort which is a scheduled monument listed as a legally protected archaeological site.
The development would be designed around this area and with rumours of The Dungeons leaving the park it could very well be that this building could be taken down to make a new entrance for this proposed area. This way you wouldn’t need to walk through David Walliams World to get to SW9 which wouldn’t make sense whatsoever.

SW9 hasn’t been confirmed by the resort but rumours are already swirling of a coaster being built inside that building rather than another form of dark ride or similar.
A David Walliams World Expansion has been in the works for a while with David himself being spotted numerous times in the park alone this season, so between SW9 and the expansion, there’s a lot happening in that area.
More signs point to this project being SW9 due to the sheer size of the land involved with a Walliams expansion more likely to take place in the direction of the driving school. This will be a big investment for the park and rumours of an indoor water coaster manufactured by Intamin have been doing the rounds on social media.
Information from the public consultation should give us a better idea of what to expect and all will become clearer on September 19th
