Frontierland Morecambe Set to ReOpen After 20 Years?

Frontierland

Music to our ears as the abandoned Frontierland Morecambe theme park is set to reopen with a new lease of life after being derelict for more than 20 years.

Standing abandoned in Lancashire for more than two decades most of the rides within the area have been torn down or the structures not fit for purpose.

It has been the decision to reopen this Wild West-themed park that has been frozen in time and local residents were given the heads up that the park will be reopened after it was acquired by Lancaster City Council back in 2021.

Plans to revamp the site have moved forward within the last week as the council look to kickstart the town’s reinvention with a few investments to attract tourists to the area.

Thousands of people once visited Frontierland every year and this revamp is set to make visitors return to Morecambe and experience the land all over again.

More plans of if it is set to remain as a Wild West theme park remains unclear but there is one thing that’s for sure, it’s not going to be a cheap project.

Originally a seaside amusement park that opened in 1906 the site was transformed into Frontierland in 1987 and operated for 13 years until it closed in the year 2000.

Rides were relocated to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Southport Pleasure Beach (with Geoffrey Thompson owning both Frontierland and Southport) and part of the park was purchased by Morrisons for a new supermarket.

News on when construction will begin to rejuvenate this park remains to be seen but it looks like full steam ahead in resurrecting this theme park and it’s a big but. Plans are still being considered regarding the overall site with more ‘leisure-led’ ideas being the most popular choice.

Hotels, restaurants and other things could utilise the space predominately as opposed to bringing back the theme park in its entirety but we’ll know more about that over the coming months.

So whilst Frontierland Morecambe is set to reopen, we’re not sure just what it’s going to look like when it does eventually reopen!
