FIRST LOOK Inside Phantom Theatre: Opening Nightmare

Phantom Theatre Interior

Courtesy of Kings Island in Ohio we have some brand new first look photos inside Phantom Theatre: Opening Nightmare ahead of its grand opening tomorrow April 18th.

Replacing the former Boo Blasters on Boo Hill ride the Phantom theatre will reopen as a homage to its roots as before Boo Blasters the original Phantom Theatre stood in its place but this new instalment will feature immersive sets as guests shoot their way around the hallowed halls on a dark and stormy night.

Inside, a performance by the theater’s resident organist Maestro is set to begin, but a lightning strike unleashes mischievous musical spirits from Maestro’s pipe organ.

Alongside head usher No Legs Larry, guests will ride in “enchanted opera boxes”, using special spellbound flashlights to capture and return the spirits so the performance can begin.

Phantom Theatre Ride

From the photos released so far there are a lot of heavily detailed scenes including backstage areas, hallways and a variety of dressing rooms along with a very detailed boiler room.

The ride will incorporate wind, sounds and hidden Easter eggs along with an on-stage musical finale.

Animatronics will be featured throughout the ride experience of iconic characters from the original ride such as Houdelini, the Great Garbonzo, Hilda Bovine, and Lionel Burymore.

Opening April 18th I cannot wait to go back to Kings Island and enjoy this one that’s for sure! I absolutely love how the sets make the ride come alive, it’s so colourful and immersive with a spooky charm that really does look like fun for all the family!

Whilst paying homage to the original ride this new version will feature more modern and advanced features and some first look footage has also been sent to us from the park of this Sally Dark Rides masterpiece.

April 18th is when Phantom Theatre Opening Nightmare opens to the public at Kings Island and it looks to be an absolute blast! I love Sally Dark Rides and their array of colourful and immersive dark ride experiences.

Kings Island New Ride 2026

From the footage shown and with most Sally Dark Rides shoot-um-up rides I do feel the guns / shooting mechanism looks a little on the cheap side (sorry guys) but the rest of the experience looks absolutely wonderful.
