It feels ever so strange writing about a friend of mine on this website but with every word typed on this screen comes great pride raising money for such a wonderful cause.
Scott Bickerton, 36, from Crewe who runs the YouTube page Your Experience Guide will be riding Big One non-stop for an entire day at Pleasure Beach Resort to raise money for The OddBalls Foundation which is a UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of testicular cancer through education, school talks, and free resources to encourage regular self-checking.
Eight hours of non-stop riding Scott is raising awareness and money for this charity ten years after his own battle with testicular cancer at age 26.
Diagnosed back in 2015 he later found out the cancer had spread to his kidneys, neck and right lung.
After four operations (two of which were life-threatening surgeries) and nine weeks of intense chemotherapy Scott was cancer-free and now ready to ‘do his bit’ to encourage other men to look after their health.
Scott said:
“I’m still here to share my cancer story, but at times I wasn’t sure I’d beat it. 10 years later I’m ready to do my bit to spread awareness about this awful illness in collaboration with Pleasure Beach Resort and The OddBalls Foundation.
Using my YouTube platform I intend to spread awareness about testicular cancer by taking on an all-day rollercoaster challenge. My YouTube audience is over 60 per cent male with a keen interest in rollercoaster and theme park videos, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to raise awareness about testicular cancer to an appropriate audience.”
Scott will be joined by his friend Stephen Curwen, 37 who will ride the Big One rollercoaster alongside him at Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach Resort as many times as possible.
The park opens from 10am until 6pm, meaning Scott and Stephen will be riding the world-famous rollercoaster for eight hours straight!
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, but is one of the most treatable if it is caught early.
