Scottish Theme Park M&D’s Enters Administration

M&D's Enters Administration

Today it has been announced that Theme Park M&D’s in Scotland has gone into administration.

The family-run business along with the Alona Hotel and theme park had been struggling financially in recent years and it seems that the COVID-19 situation has tipped them over the edge.

In March the company took the decision to lay off some staff members who had served the park for many years. This thursday the rest of its 165 staff were contacted.

They were told that they were to be made redundant with immediate effect.

Opening in 1996 the park had more than 40 attractions. Over the years the park has built up quite the reputation for all the wrong reasons.

Health and Safety checks on rides have been constantly questioned. Many of the rides never looked in particularly good shape.

In June, 2016 a coaster derailed injuring 9 people. The park were fined £65,000 for health and safety breaches.

In a statement Theme Park M&D’s said:

It has been a challenging few years and we have worked really hard to try to diversify and keep the business afloat.

Like many leisure businesses, the plans we had for the 2020 season have had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

We explored all options to try and safeguard the business and jobs of our colleagues, many of whom are longstanding. However it is with a heavy heart that we are having to make 165 employees redundant.
