A standard Fantasy Island Millennium evacuation was once again blown up by mainstream media today.
In what seems like an obvious attack of scaremongering on theme parks / roller coasters in general the mainstream media once again made out as though a standard lift hill stall was the most terrifying thing on the planet.
Don’t get me wrong Millennium at Fantasy Island is a 150ft tall coaster and is no.4 on the UK’s tallest roller coasters but other than being motionless quite high in the air the evacuation was normal, the ride stop was normal and the staff even handed out hoodies to guests because it’s cold up there.
Now type in Millennium evacuation or Fantasy Island evacuation on Google and they will make out as though the ride had a ‘Final Destination’ moment.
Funnily enough the Vekoma coaster has a very similar (if not the same) harness system as the rollercoaster used in the Final Destination 3 movie (Corkscrew at Playland PNE Vancouver) but I digress.
The steps to the left hand side of the lift hill are absolutely huge compared to some rides and everyone had a harness attached and made their way down.
The only ‘terror’ and comments from members of the public is understandably the nervy situation of being rather high up in the air and the rareness of a coaster stopping on a lift hill.
No more, no less.
Fantasy Island handled the evacuation personally and you can all go about your day.
Millennium is a wonderful coaster, such a smooth Vekoma and rarely do we say that and a great addition.
Whilst Fantasy Island certainly isn’t a fond favourite of mine it certainly does help the park having the 3rd and 4th tallest coasters in the UK right opposite from one another.
That’s a draw for coaster enthusiasts let alone the general public.
