Nemesis at Alton Towers Set For A Major Overhaul?

Nemesis Major Overhaul

It seems as though Nemesis at Alton Towers may potentially be undergoing a major overhaul in the next year or two as various guests over the weekend were told the news by a senior member of staff.

Please note that nothing has been officially confirmed from Alton Towers at this stage.

Now as you know when it comes to this site reporting rumours we only post when there’s more than one source of the speculation.

Over the weekend we had numerous reports coming in that a key member of staff at Alton Towers had confirmed that Nemesis would indeed be overhauled within the next 2 years and that would mean that Nemesis would be closed for an entire season when work does eventually take place.

This staff member will not be named just in case they let this information slip by accident but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the news as rumours were murmuring in the summer regarding Nemesis’ future.

The ride was also closed down towards the tail end of the 2020 season so it could very possibly mean that work is already underway but we won’t find that out until the start of the 2021 season.

If those ear fluttering B&M roars are heard from the car park at the start of the 2021 season we then know it won’t be until 2022.

But if there’s silence from Forbidden Valley’s B&M coaster then 2021 could very well be the season chosen for a complete rehaul.

26 years young opening at Alton Towers on March 19, 1994, an overhaul could mean that Nemesis could undergo a retrack and indeed be getting new trains.

I’m already worried that a retracking could potentially lose the classic ride experience but at the same time, it needs to stay as close to the original.

The thought of even changing it scares me but clearly there was a reason that it was closed down at the end of the 2020 season although this could be for something completely unrelated to the recent revelation.

But what work could be taking place?

Enthusiasts have also informed me that B&M (Bolliger and Mabillard) no longer supply the trains that would be the right fit for the Nemesis track.

If this is true then this could also mean new trains and in turn, new restraints.

With me admittedly knowing the bare minimum about coasters I’ll let the boffins figure that one out whilst I focus on the fun stuff!

If new trains are on the cards then I pray that the B&M vest restraints aren’t included and we get the over the shoulder restraints to keep the ride as close to its original form as possible.

Please keep in mind that ‘Major Overhaul’ could also be an overhaul of other aspects of the ride including theming.

It could very well be more of an aesthetic overhaul rather than track/train related.

Or it could be a senior member of staff trolling us all.

Only time will tell.

Update:

Since this article went live we’ve had even more people send us messages who were at Alton Towers this weekend who have also confirmed that they also were told the news but a few also said that they were told that everything that will be done to the coaster will be ‘like for like’.

This term was thrown around numerous times from a number of messages we received.

That certainly sounds like a potential retrack to me.

This won’t be a small project and would more than make sense for Nemesis to be out of action for a season when the work is indeed due to take place.

I’m praying for 2022 as I’ve got some content planned for 2021 which could very well be the send off season for Nemesis before Nemmy undergoes some surgery!

We’ll report more on this story as and when news or something more concrete from Alton Towers becomes available to us.
