When it comes to the UK’s top attractions of 2019 I expect theme parks, tourist attractions, fun places to visit, interactive games the works. This week Tripadvisor released their UK list of top attractions for 2019 and I was shocked (for the most part laughing actually) at the results.
It’s hard to tell what classes as an attraction nowadays but this list certainly seems to be catered towards the tourism side of things. Naturally, Tripadvisor being the tourist hotspot rated site that it is would churn out results such as this. But not one mention of a theme park? Not one mention of a genuine attraction? It’s just a list of landmark attractions which are great to look at for all of five minutes before you’re a little bored and want to go and actually do something fun!
There is a silver lining in this landmarks list of all things pretty to look at and that’s the London Eye. The London Eye now sponsored by LastMinute.com made the list swooping in at number 4. It does seem however that other than that, it’s a very disappointing list unless you love your history!
The UK’s Top Attractions of 2019 List
- Tower of London, London
- Stonehenge, Amesbury
- Giant’s Causway, Bushmills
- The London Eye, London
- Royal Mile, Edinburgh
- Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands
- Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh
- Buckingham Palace, London
- Stirling Castle, Stirling
- St Paul’s Cathedral, London
Don’t get me wrong these are all beautiful locations. Absolutely breathtaking in fact but the idea of an attraction is to actually do something other than look at it. To be involved with it, to educate as well as to enjoy. I mean gees, throw in a theme park or a funfair or SOMETHING! For those who live outside of the UK, I wholeheartedly promise you that we’re not this boring!
