Chessington New Rollercoaster and Land Announced!

Today Chessington unveiled their public discussion of significant changes including a new land, an indoor rollercoaster and more in this very exciting consultation.

Plans will be submitted at the end of the year for all of the proposed developments which further adds fuel to the fire of a rumoured Minecraft land (and ride) coming to the resort.

Chessington today unveiled for public discussion significant changes planned in the coming months and years these plans will be submitted for planning permission at the end of the year after the public consultation period is over.

Let’s take a look at all of the plans starting with Project Refresh.

Project Refresh – RUMOURED Minecraft Land

Chessington Project Refresh

Project Refresh consists of the Wild Asia area along with the glamping site on the south-west area of the Resort.

Wild Asia has some of the oldest buildings and rides in the Resort and has needed an upgrade for a while and with the glamping site only having planning permission until September 2025 it seems as though big changes are coming.

The area will be refreshed and replaced with a new themed land which will bring a series of new unique immersive experiences to the area. A fully themed immersive land was also promised for the Jumanji area of the park during consultation so you can expect to see high levels of theming for this land too.

Chessington Indoor Coaster Minecraft

Play areas and sensory environments are also planned with the centrepiece of the land being a new indoor rollercoaster which will have indoor and outdoor elements (think Studio Park Tour at Movie Park Germany).

Kobra will be re-themed and re-positioned along with another indoor ride (no further details revealed) along with interactive retail, food and beverage buildings.

Additional planting will also be provided.

With Alton Towers linked to an indoor multi-dimensional coaster by Intamin before an obvious delay could this model be heading down to Chessington? With a rumoured tilt-track, outdoor section and spinning trains (think Uncharted at PortAdventura) could this better / more expensive model now be heading to Chessington with some Minecraft theming?

Project Play

Project Play

It looks as though we’ll be saying goodbye to the Mexican area of Chessington along with the Petting Zoo as this is another area of development outlined in the plans which encompasses Scorpion Express which has been standing but not operating for quite some time now.

A younger guest themed experience (similar to CBeebies Land at Alton Towers) looks to include the following:

  • ‘My first’ rollercoaster
  • Children’s flat rides
  • Themed playscape
  • Meet and greet area
  • Food and beverage
  • Themed retail area

Lodges

Chessington Lodges

Planning permission was granted many years ago (2018) for 34 lodges, work was meant to begin in 2021 but was paused. This development has now been revived as Chessington are targeting a 2027 opening date.

Animal Relocation

The Lorikeets based in Wild Asia will be relocated and given newly upgraded enclosures as new enclosures will be added to the Wanyama Village and Reserve for them.

Water Park Update

Whilst the planning application was submitted in 2023 there are no further updates regarding achieving planning permission but this was highlighted on the plans just to let everyone know that it was still going ahead but timescales are unsure.

Car Park Upgrades

The southern car park consists of muddy fields and is horrendous to park on when the ground is wet and muddy.

Upgrades are underway with the resurfacing of the Macaw Car Park along with associated drainage and landscaping works which will be completed this year.

This is a very exciting time for Chessington World of Adventures as investment is being ploughed into the park, it’s been a long time coming and it’ll be exciting to see what the future holds in regards to these two new themed lands in addition to a very exciting indoor rollercoaster project!
