We headed to Derby to Unescapable as we attempted their newest and most difficult room, Alan.
Alan was always someone we could rely on, he’d be at work super early every shift, was always happy to stay late if we needed him to, and if you could look past his obsession with pirates then he seemed like a very normal guy.
Unfortunately, he’s not turned up for work two days in a row and he isn’t returning our calls, and we suspect he’s responsible for a very important manual going missing.
We think it’s our duty as responsible employers to do something …so we want to ask you for a favour
The insert seen above is the only information revealed about the Alan room at Unescapable Derby before you enter.
Unescapable is an escape room venue that houses a time portal in which you travel through to various rooms and scenarios in the hunt for various artefacts lost in the time continuum.
The reception was wonderfully laid out and there were hundreds of photos across every area of the wall full of past game participants.

Priced at £25 for 2 people we headed into the room and were greeted with a children’s bedroom.
We began in a very subtly themed children’s bedroom as we were introduced to the story by our very friendly games master and armed with a walkie talkie to communicate with her, we began.
For the most part, the puzzles were rather straight forward but one new puzzle that caught my attention was one that involved scent.
It was a very smart way of getting a code for a number lock and one I haven’t encountered before within an escape room.
Our mission was to find 4 keys to unlock the portal for us to enter a new dimension.
The bedroom wasn’t themed to the point where I was overly impressed but the second we got that portal open and stepped on board a pirate ship, I was very impressed with my surroundings indeed.
Wood panelling, rope, old school bottles, chests, candlesticks, skeletons, cobwebs and more made up the pirate ship portal section of Alan.
Tight corridors and even a crawl space section may be a bit much for claustrophobic people but I absolutely loved it.
All that was missing was a shipwreck style scent (give Aromaprime a call guys, they’ll sort you out) wafting through the corridors and I would have been completely immersed.
Armed with two torches, Alan was Unescapable’s hardest room and we just managed to escape with seconds remaining.
There’s a wonderful mix of puzzles but some will absolutely need a little hint, wink and nudge from the game master to get you over the finish line.
Friendly staff, a great venue and a lovely little escape room full of challenging puzzles and wonderful theming.
I was thoroughly impressed with the venue the second we stepped foot into the reception and will happily return again to do their other rooms including Edith, their most terrifying horror-themed escape room.
