Magicaluna Efteling Show Review: Magical But a Little Disjointed

Magicaluna

Efteling have added a brand new show for 2026 and we were kindly invited to the park to check it out and bring you our thoughts!

Magicaluna is showing several times a day within the Efteling Theatre as this 20-minute non-verbal show is certainly an unusual showcase of magic, mystery and illusion.

The story follows a young girl named Luna on a wondrous journey between dream and reality. On the eve of her birthday, she decides to leave her childhood behind. Yet, during the night, mysterious “Dream Builders” transform her room into an enchanting dream spectacle. Toys come to life, shadows light the way, and illusions open the door to a world brimming with imagination. On this magical journey, Luna discovers that the capacity for wonder remains a cherished companion throughout one’s entire life—regardless of age.

Magicaluna Show

Now the above paragraph was taken from the official press release but whilst watching the show I didn’t have a clue what was happening!

Luna’s dreamscape characters are the stuff of nightmares and the magical lighthearted tone that the show tries to portray is met with more sinister vibes with illusions such as the saw in half trick certainly being a puzzling inclusion within a show that’s meant to be about happy things.

Whilst the illusions themselves were clever they just didn’t fit the story and deliver the emotional impact that the show was set to portray.

Magicaluna Entrance

Efteling worked with a production company to deliver and illusions and the storytelling but if this was advertised as an illusion show then I would have no complaints but it was not.

Magicaluna was advertised as a fairytale exploration of a dreamscape and it just didn’t deliver in that department and felt disjointed and weak for a theme park that is built on storytelling and immersion.

The show can be seen daily through November 8th at 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, and 2:30 PM at the Efteling Theater, free of charge for park guests. Reservations are not required. *Magicaluna* is designed for the whole family and is recommended for guests aged 6 and up. The performance schedule for the theater show *CARO* remains unchanged.
