A New Rollercoaster at Thorpe Park Is Finally on the Cards!

It’s been over a year (yes that long) since we posted news around a new coaster heading to Thorpe Park after the best part of a decade and the first step towards that becoming a reality started yesterday.

With major land clearance taking place in the Old Town area of the park not to mention the slow removal of Loggers Leap and Platform 15 (located in Old Town) retiring at the end of 2022 the pieces were in place ready for the next step.

A public consultation.

Thorpe Park has created a website much like Chessington World of Adventures did with their recent Jumanji themed winged coaster proposal that is set to go live on December 10th.

Flyers have also been sent out to local residents to take part in the upcoming consultation, see below:

Thorpe Park New Rollercoaster

Yes, twelve whole days until we not only see what type of coaster will be coming to the resort but just what’s in store for this long awaited addition.

Thorpe Park have been ridiculously lazy in terms of attractions added to the park since their last coaster The Swarm opened in 2012.

Since then pop-up chop and change attractions have been favoured over any big investment but was this always the bigger picture?

Invest small and save money for something breathtaking later down the line?

All will be revealed on December 10th.

Enthusiasts are praying for the UK’s first RMC but the general public doesn’t even know what RMC stands for let alone cares about one in anyway shape or form.

There are also the rumours that B&M have signed a 3 coaster deal with Merlin so people are naturally assuming Thorpe will get a B&M. Personally, I don’t think so.

The re-tracking of Nemesis + the Chessington winged coaster + Alton Towers SW9 (rumoured to be B&M) doesn’t leave any room for little old Thorpe in that deal.

If anything, no matter the manufacturer it’ll have to reach for a UK’s tallest coaster title, it just has to.

Big One has held the title since 1994 and it’s time for a baton change.

Having a staple ride like that along with a world’s first in there for good measure (as Merlin love to do with their rides) and Thorpe will certainly be a hot prospect.

With London Resort breathing down their neck with the potential to dominate the UK south in terms of theme park competition Thorpe needs something truly remarkable to stay in the game and remain relevant.

This is the perfect opportunity, but I’m always skeptical, Thorpe just hasn’t delivered in many areas where other parks are head and shoulders ahead.

The time is now to step up!

Artwork for a new potential ride was also teased through the new for 2021 scare maze attraction ‘Trailers’ with a poster with the title EXODUS alluded to a new ride coming to park in addition to Egyptian style theming and the world EXODUS appearing in numerous locations around the park.

EXODUS Thorpe Park

EXODUS could very well be the project name for the upcoming ride and if it’s Egyptian themed or sci-fi themed then I’m all for it but it’ll have to be as tall as the pyramids to really stand out at Thorpe Park with the already intimidating Stealth standing at 203ft dominating the island like no other skyline.

As of 2022 the whole of Old Town will be closed to the public with all the rides currently located inside Old Town (Lumber Jump and Timber Tug Boat) requiring potential relocation or an alternative solution.

The park is currently working alongside local authorities for planning approval.

Stay tuned to this page for future updates on this very exciting development for the Chertsey based theme park.
