Based on the old site of Camelot Theme Park in Charnock Richard lies Camelot Rises, a brand new immersive zombie experience complete with a drive-thru and drive-in cinema!
Priced at £50 per car Camelot Rises is certainly an event that is encouraging you to pack out those seats with bodies and get your money’s worth.
Five of you in a car at £10 each and this event becomes an absolute steal. When the car numbers decrease though however, Camelot Rises does get a little pricey so my top tip for the event is to get that car full. You’ll have more fun during the drive-thru and have a great time with all the stalls/entertainment going on thereafter.
Our night begins with a one-mile driving experience as the military (in full official attire) stop us at a checkpoint, scan our car and then the next minute drag us out of said car and search the vehicle.
We jump back into the car and the trail begins.
With lighting, audio and fog effects there’s certainly an eerie atmosphere as you pass by the abandoned and derelict buildings that once were home to numerous attractions at Camelot Theme Park.

The park is creepy in the day as nature has taken hold but at night and with some effects it’s a very suspenseful drive indeed.
As you are greeted with more soldiers and creatures of the night you reach a decontamination unit and get sprayed down (your car, not you) and head into the cinema.
What I will say is that whilst the experience contains a wonderful path through a section of the park some areas were desperately in need of a jump scare or two.
It was set up perfectly as you approach a blind bend not knowing what’s on the other side and then, nothing happens.
Not car horn that comes on and makes you jump, no burned-out car on fire or a pile of steaming bodies smoking from incineration. There’s so much more to add to this event to really heighten that zombie experience.
The costumes and the zombie masks especially were very high quality indeed and certainly immersed you into the trail but there’s so much more room for improvement to step it up in terms of fear factor.
The drive-in cinema consisted of a DJ and various food stalls selling a variety of edibles from tacos to pizzas. I highly recommend the beef tacos, they were superb!
With live entertainment and a little surprise before your movie begins Camelot Rises is certainly worth a visit.
New films are being shown every single night so you can pick and choose what film you’d like to see and with a car full you won’t be disappointed.
Camelot has risen and I absolutely recommend you go and check it out!
