From Star Wars to Flash Gordon the halls are filled with some of the most recognisable faces in TV and Movie history. We have Danny Glover casually sitting down signing autographs on one desk. We have Dolph Lundgren doing boxing poses with fans and we have Warwick Davis with a beaming smile on his face every time you walk by.

This is the magic of comic con. For the Love of Sci-Fi brings together the love of cosplay, pop culture and more to deliver one hell of a convention experience.

After what we hear was quite a busy Saturday, Sunday brought a more chilled atmosphere. Just walking around we saw Jon Bernthal just casually walking around the stalls. I saw Sam Jones standing in-front of a giant mech photo-op. It was all a bit surreal to tell you the truth! It seems as thou the guests have just as much fun as the fans do but if I was on the money they’re on to sign items and take photos i’d be smiling too!

The Convention Experience

If you don’t fancy queuing up to meet your guest or you need to kill some time before your next photo op there’s a few options to choose from. There’s a wonderful Star Wars cantina bar upstairs for you to chill out and have a drink. There’s a Robot Wars arena where robots duel to the death and there’s also an archery range, axe throwing and giant inflatable slides to keep you occupied.

If you want a more chilled out break you can sit down at one of the many games consoles. Challenge your friend to a retro showdown or a more modern head to head game on the various consoles.

The food is well priced with both an indoor and outdoor food stalls. The drinks are reasonable too. Everything was under £10 which for a convention is very reasonable indeed.

There were various Q&A’s taking place across the convention where the stars would take to the stage to discuss their careers. The Q&A seating was rather quiet on the Sunday so you could always get a seat. Well, that was until Brian Blessed took to the stage and suddenly a football size crowd descended around the stage to hear the legendary actors iconic voice.

From Blade to a full size Megatron the cosplayers deserve credit in their own right. The amount of time and effort that must go into every costume is extraordinary. At conventions like this the cosplayers are equally on par with the stars themselves. They dedicate their entire days to taking photos with fans and brightening up the convention experience.

There were some absolutely outstanding costumes on display everywhere you looked. From a wookie casually checking his Instagram page to Blade showing off his fangs to passers by.

For the Love of Sci-Fi brings all things nerdy to Manchester. One standout thing for me was the jedi arena where young children (and big kids) alike would duel a jedi or sith. Various saber techniques were shown to willing students who wish to learn the ways of the force.

Seeing a young child force push an in-costume Kylo Ren was quite the spectacle. Even funnier being that the young lad in question was wearing a Georgie style raincoat. Quite the franchise crossover that’s for sure!

Bigger and better seems to be the motto over at Monopoly events. With even bigger stars already announced in advance of next years events it’s clear to see there’s only one direction this company is heading towards.
