Hooghmoed Opens Today at Efteling

 Hooghmoed

The area around Baron 1898 at Efteling today has a brand new attraction to compliment the surrounding area as the family drop tower Hooghmoed officially opens today.

For guests who are at least 90cm tall they can ride the brand new attraction as Dutch actress and singer Fenna Ramos performed at the opening ceremony and sang ‘No One Can Bring Us Down’ for the first time – a song about courage, bravery and daring to be yourself, specially written for the opening of the new attraction.

Fons Jurgens, CEO of Efteling:

“By adding Hooghmoed to the area around Baron 1898, we are continuing to bring our vision to life: creating themed worlds where guests can truly step into another reality. Hooghmoed also contributes to a broader range of attractions for younger thrill-seekers in this area of Efteling.”

Hooghmoed Drop Towers

Baron 1898 tells the story of Baron Gustave Hooghmoed, who wants to extract as much gold as possible from the mines. To do so, he needs the help of mine workers: the Efteling visitors. In the story of the new attraction Hooghmoed, visitors take on the role of the Baron’s ‘chimney sweeps’ as they ascend and descend the chimneys (drop towers).

Hooghmoed consists of the so-called gold smeltery with a 14.5-metre-high chimney and three drop towers, each 12 metres tall. Each tower has a capacity of 10 people, allowing 30 guests per ride. The three towers each feature their own ride sequence of approximately 1.5 minutes. The maximum drop height is six metres. The attraction hosts a number of exciting effects including sound, mist and smoke creating an immersive experience.

Hooghmoed is the first thrilling attraction at Efteling for children 90 centimetres tall and above. They must be accompanied by someone at least 130 centimetres tall and aged 16 or older. The expected capacity is 600 guests per hour.

In just a few weeks time we’ll be off to Efteling ourselves so it’ll be great to see these in person and check them out, usually rides like this I’d walk past and not give them a second thought especially rides with younger riders in mind but just look at the theming and the immersion of the surrounding area and effects that accompany the experience. I can’t WAIT to get on it!
